Card Game

Masochists forced to compete against each other in a card game

What You Need

  • Playing cards

Method

In this training task, you will play a competitive card game.

The game is called "Domination."
It's a one-on-one duel for 2 players.
Here are the rules:

  • Shuffle a 52-card deck well, excluding jokers
  • Deal 5 cards to each player
  • Starting with the first player, take turns placing one card at a time on the table
  • The next playable card must have a number higher than or equal to the previous card
  • Ace is treated as 1 and is the weakest, while King is the strongest
  • When a player cannot play a card, the round ends, and the player who played the last card wins
  • The number on the last played card becomes the score
  • After the round ends, used cards become discards, but arrange them like in the game "Sevens" so that previously played cards are visible
  • Unused cards in your hand carry over to the next round
  • Deal cards until each player has 5 cards again to begin the next round
  • The player who won the previous round goes first
  • When the deck runs out, collect all cards including those in hand, shuffle, and restart

This is a very simple number comparison game.
However, there are special rules related to scoring called "Domination" and "Inelegance."

  • When the same suit (Hearts, Spades, Diamonds, Clubs) is played consecutively, "Domination" begins
  • During "Domination," only higher cards of the same suit can be played
  • The card that started the "Domination" is placed sideways on the table for reference
  • For each N cards played after "Domination" begins, the winner's score is multiplied by N+1

The last rule might be a bit confusing.
Let's say a Heart 4 is followed by a Heart 8, initiating "Domination."
If the next player cannot play a card, the normal 8 points would be doubled to 16 points.
If they can play a Heart 10 after the 8, the score becomes 3+1 times the normal 10 points, resulting in 30 points.
If the sequence continues as 4, 8 (Domination), 10, J, K, the multiplier increases to 2×, 3×, 4×, 5×, making the final score 13×5=65 points.

  • Playing the strongest card of a suit as your first move results in "Inelegance," and the winning points become just 1 point

The strongest card of a suit is the highest remaining card of that suit not yet in the discard pile.
For example, if Spades 2, 4, Q, and K have already been discarded, the strongest Spade card is J. Other suits don't matter.
If no cards have been discarded yet, the strongest card for each suit is K.
If the first player places the strongest card initially, it's "Inelegant" and even if they win, the score is only 1 point.
However, if the second player plays the next card, "Inelegance" is canceled.

Play according to these rules and perform the punishment game specified in each punishment set based on the score.

Points to Note

The characteristic of this game is the risk-return of "Domination," which can result in enormous scores.
Depending on the punishment set, you might have to give up after a single devastating round.

While this training task was created for masochists to compete against each other, it might also be nice to compete against your master, with rewards or punishments given according to the score difference.
