Plagiarism
Being forced to apologize for a false accusation of plagiarism
What You Need
- Nothing in particular
Method
This training task uses your imagination to place yourself in a humiliating situation.
You are a student, perhaps in high school or university.
One day, a teacher asks you to stay behind.
As you wait in the classroom with confusion, you notice that besides the teacher, one of your classmates is also present.
The teacher seems extremely angry, but you have no idea why.
The teacher takes out two thick stacks of paper.
You recognize one of them. It's the report you submitted last week.
This is a very important assignment that will significantly affect your grade for the term, and you put considerable effort into completing it.
The teacher shows both reports to you and your classmate, and says with anger:
"You copied [classmate]'s assignment word for word. That's an extremely shameful and despicable act."
You're shocked because this report is genuinely your own work.
This is what I wrote, and it's this person who plagiarized from me.
You desperately try to explain, but for some reason, the teacher refuses to listen.
"If you insist, fine. This page, this section—you of course know which paper it's quoted from, right?"
The teacher points to a completely unimportant part and questions you.
You can't answer immediately.
"[Classmate]?"
When the teacher turns to your classmate, they answer instantly—the author's name, the long title of the paper, even the page number.
"It's clear who plagiarized from whom. You will certainly fail this course, and you may even face expulsion."
At the teacher's harsh words, you feel the blood drain from your face.
"Well, but..."
Suddenly your classmate interrupts.
"If you properly reflect and apologize, I'll forgive you. But you have to get completely naked and do it in an extremely humiliating way."
There's no way you can do that.
Of course, you desperately refuse, but the teacher remains firm that expulsion is the alternative.
You can't be kicked out of school now.
Remembering the faces of those who have supported you, you bite your lip.
As you're repeatedly accused of plagiarism by both of them, you begin to feel as if you really did commit the wrongdoing.
Your spirit breaks, and you decide to apologize sincerely just to escape this suffering.
Imagine this scenario up to this point, then remove your clothes, get on your hands and knees completely naked, and apologize.
Admit that you plagiarized, confess your cowardice, and swear to do anything to make amends.
Think of fawning, submissive words of apology that will satisfy the teacher and your classmate.
Points to Note
If this happened to you in real life, anyone would be trembling with anger at such injustice, right?
But you are a masochist who somehow gets excited when such unreasonable demands are forced upon you.
Perhaps it's because they've seen through this aspect of you that they make such irrational claims.
Seeing your pathetic apology, the teacher and your classmate snicker with grins.
Noticing their meaningful glances at each other, you finally understand the truth.
